SecuLution Agent installation

SecuLution maintains 3 different version levels of our product.
  • "Release version" include changes that affect the softwares security and stability. An update to at least this version is highly recommended. These versions are available using the menu "Extra / Updates / Download now / Release version" and are automatically reported when "Check for updates on startup weekly" is selected.
  • "Latest version" include new features or bugfixes for problems that may only affect specific customer configurations. These versions are available via "Extra / Updates / Download now / Latest version".
  • "Beta" versions are available from the manufacturer exclusively on demand.

We recommend using the "Latest version". Customers who want to avoid frequent updates should always use at least the "Release version".

Installing the Agent

Although the Agent installation is very easy (just run "autosetup.exe" from the "Client-installer" directory on your install CD as administrator), some things are worth noting:

  •  Always start "autosetup.exe" by right-clicking and choosing "run as administrator" when you install manually, even when you are logged in as administrator and even if you have turned UAC off!
  • Manual installation is possible but not practicable if you have hundreds of computers to deploy. Either use your own software deployment system or use the RCM feature.
  • When you start "autosetup.exe" manually, the computer will reboot without asking for confirmation! Save your work! Close all programs!
  • The Agent will refuse to install (see FAQ) if programs are running on the computer that are not classified as trustworthy in the whitelist. You should read the FAQ for additional information.
  • Command line arguments for installing the Agent are available. To use them manually, run cmd.exe as administrator, "cd" to the Agent installer directory and enter e.g. "autosetup.exe /run". The optional arguments are:
    • /run (do not reboot)
    • /fillcache (prepare for offline mode)
  • The files "setup.ini" and "client.pem" must reside in the same directory as autosetup.exe.
  • The setup.ini file contains default configuration values like the IP address of the Appliance. These default values will be stored in the Registry under "HKLM/Software/SecuLution/Agent" during the installation process of the Agent. Subsequent changes can be done manually in the registry or by changing a value in setup.ini, uninstallation and reinstallation of the Agent.
  • An image file (min 64x64px) named "messageicon.jpg" (or .png) can be put into the same directory as the Agent installer ("autosetup.exe" ). If available, messages shown to the user by the SecuLution Agent will include the image.

Updating the Agent

Agent update files are available via "Extra / Updates" menu.

After downloading, update installation files can be found in the temp folder. Move and unpack the agent setup file (autosetup.exe) to its target location. To deploy the new Agent version, you must first uninstall the Agent (with reboot). After that, the new version can be installed. RCM can do this for you automatically.

Uninstalling the Agent

  • Uninstalling the Agent can be done by running autouninstall.exe from the directory "Client-uninstaller" (run as administrator).
  • Always start "autouninstall.exe" by right-clicking and choosing "run as administrator" when you uninstall manually!
  • Optional arguments are: /noreboot
  • When you start "autouninstall.exe" manually, the computer will reboot without asking for confirmation! Save your work!
